I came across Paul Hawken’s commencement speech to the University of Oregon Class of 2009 this morning. With Earth Day around the corner, it seemed apropos as a way to step back and think about how our friendship with the Earth is doing.
In the same way that some of us have acquired a higher standard of living by borrowing money, humans have done the same in general, by borrowing resources. More than we need, in my humble opinion. Rather than go on, I’ll just ask you to read the speech. Hawken discusses the point much more eloquently and credibly—I commend it to you.
